Running Together
for over 30 years

We’re a group of motivated and energetic individuals brought together by a love of athletics. Have a look at what we’ve got coming up, and if you’re interested in joining our Athletics Club, simply get in touch today.

Metro St. Brigid's Athletics Club (MSB AC) is a community-focused athletics club steeped in almost a century of rich history. MSB was formed through the merging of two successful Dublin athletic clubs in 1993, Metropolitan Harriers and St. Brigid's AC. In the 30 years since our merger as MSB, we have grown from strength to strength. Currently, we have over 500 members with thriving juvenile, junior, senior and masters’ sections.

Our Training Events

Juvenile

At MSB our younger juvenile training groups are broadly based on a child’s approximate age in order to promote not only age-appropriate athletic development but also to nurture friendships and bonding with other kids of their own age.

Junior / Senior / Masters

At MSB we have a thriving junior, senior and masters’ membership competing and training at all different levels. From the very competitive, who are chasing National medals on the track, in cross-country or on the road, to those who are looking for regular health and fitness training.

Sprint Training

Sprint training is a pivotal part of MSB Athletics Club. The Sprint Group caters for juveniles and adults looking to focus on the speed events in athletics. We prepare our sprint athletes for peak performance in the disciplines of speed, strength and agility. Guided by experienced coaches, our sprint athletes engage in meticulously planned and periodized workouts aimed at enhancing their explosive power, stride length, and overall sprinting technique.

MSB Club Run

Our weekly Sunday morning club run is a social mainstay of being a member of MSB. Meeting at White’s Gate in the Phoenix Park it offers club mates to come together for an easy run. There are a variety of paces on offer (all of them relaxed and easy) in this inclusive tradition. The Sunday run starts at 8am for the early risers and long-distance marathoners and loops back at 9am for the late sleepers looking for a light recovery run through the beauty of the Phoenix Park. The atmosphere is one of camaraderie, as MSB teammates chat about their respective training weeks and life in general, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Two years ago, I joined MSB after years of sporadic training on my own. My goal was to break milestones in events like the 5k and 10k, but I always fell short. However, once I joined the running group, I found several training partners who were at or above my ability level. They welcomed me and helped me improve my performance, steadily reducing my times for various events.

Training with runners from different backgrounds and skill levels has been a great source of motivation for me. They encourage and challenge me to push my limits, and I find the social aspect of the club very rewarding. Overall, I'm grateful to have found such a supportive community that has helped me reach my running goals.

I'm Ciara Defaoite, Mam to three kids in MSB and one of the coaches to the 2010/2011's. I was completely new to athletics (as were my kids) and joined the club when the kids did. I joined because of the kids and wanted to give them the gift of running as I feel as they get older it is so important for both their physical and mental health.

Turns out its good for mine too, I have fallen in love with shotput, have done a few coaching courses, made new friends which as an adult is hard to do and have also signed up for my first ever 5k. I can't say I'm going to be in a position to run it all but with the support from the kids in my group and my own kids I'm going to give it a go. As I have learnt through MSB "it's not about perfect, it's about effort".

My interest in athletics dates back to Ronnie Delany’s Olympics victory in December 1956, just coming up to my 9th birthday. I joined a local club in County Laois when I was 15 and was Laois Youths champion in 1965 and 1966. As somewhat of a ‘blow in’ in 1995, I’ve had nothing but the height of friendship, support and companionship ever since I joined MSB.

My roles have been two fold in coaching and administration. By far my most enjoyable role has been as sprint coach for 28 years. I have coached many individuals and relay teams during that period have coached some athletes and relay teams to Dublin and National success. It’s a wonderful community to be part of and I’m extremely grateful for the amazing experiences I’ve had in the club.
