MSB St. Patrick's Festival 5k Race
The MSB St. Patrick's Festival 5k was the biggest ever with 1768 registered participants. There was a great atmosphere both in the Round Room and on the course.
After last year's cancellation due to weather conditions, all participants had the chance to return to this year's event. MSB were only too delighted to welcome all runners back for this great city race. This is one of Ireland's fastest city 5k races and it attracts some very fine runners along with joggers, walkers and many overseas participants who were enjoying the St. Patrick's weekends activities.
The race was very competitive race in both the men's and women's races. The battle between Hiko Tonoso of Dundrum South Dublin and Efrem Gidey (recent winner of the Senior Schools Cross Country Championship) of Clonliffe Harriers was a sight to see with both in a full out sprint for the line in the last 200m with Hiko just edging out Efrem in a time of 14:52. Daniel Lacey was the winner in the Junior event.
Fionnuala McCormack of Kilcoole AC won the women's race in 16:02 with MSB's Catriona Mullen in a fine second place dipping under the 17 minute mark in a time of 16:57.
Metro St. Bridgid's won the women's team prize (Catroina Mullen, Kate O'Neill, Aisling Mohan and Sarah Fay) with Clonliffe Harriers winning the men's team event.
The Run Hub (including MSB's Sarah Fay) were winners of the corporate team prize.
Thanks to all the volunteers who worked on all the aspects of the race. There are too many to mention individually but everyone played their part.
Special thanks to the race committee who turned round the unfortunate cancellation of last year's event to make this one the most successful MSB 5k races ever.
We hope to see you all again next year!
