Dublin Juv. Champs - Day 6 - Report

Weds, 20th June 2018

A fantastic final day in the Dublin Juvenile Championships took place earlier this evening out in Santry.

Five relay teams in the 4x100m and 11 athletes in the 1500m took to the line for MSB and brought back 9 medals in total for MSB.

First up was the U14G 1500m race. Our 800m one and two Aoife Brown and Gara Williams lined out for MSB and duly took to the front and pushed the pace on quickly dropping the chasing pack. In a repeat of the 800m race Aoife took Gold in 4:53 and Gara silver in 4:58

The U14B 1500m was next with Louie Woodger, James Monahan and Sean Finn. Louie and James went to the front and kept the pressure on for the first three laps. In the last lap Louie moved ahead and took Gold in 4:54 with James taking Silver in 4:58. Sean Finn followed up in a great 7th place. Some start for MSB!

Viviana McCann was up next in the U15G 1500m and went straight to the front and stayed there right to the finish taking a superb Gold medal.

James Bolton (U15B), Alex Lanecki (U16B and Robert Rebegea (U17B) all ran very well to finish in 5th place in their respective 1500m races. Paul Morgan toughed it out in his U17B 1500m race.

Aisling Mohan took to the track again in the U18G 1500m race and took yet another medal; this time it was Silver.

David Troy ran a very solid race in the U19B 1500m and was just edged out of third place but took a great fourth place and a spot at nationals.

The relays were up next with the five teams. The U12G got round very well in the one lap relay but did not make the final which was a hard task with over 20 teams taking part. The U12B team ran a great heat to automatically qualify for the final. The U14G had two teams and both ran superbly to make it to the final. The U14B team did not fare so well and unfortunately missed a changeover knowing they had to push them to the limits to have a chance of making the final. That meant three MSB teams into the final!

The U12B team of Ben O'Neill, Eoin Casey, Jake O'Neill and Noah McCarthy pushed round the lap hard and with some decent changeovers took a fantastic Bronze medal

With two U14G teams (Team 1: Aoife Brown, Gara Williams, Leila McCormack and Zoe Coquart + Team 2: Ciara Sawyer, Sinead Dowling, Eghosa Nugba and Saoirse Nic Sheoin) lining out, they pushed each other hard and it was neck and neck into the final leg with the DSD team in with a shout too. Zoe managed to pull away to take the gold medal and Saoirse anchored her team to Bronze. A medal double for MSB was some sight to see!

Thanks once again to all coaches, parents and those who helped out with the officiating (Brian and Mary)
