XC National Champs 2018 Report (Uneven)

Saturday, 15th December 2018

The National Uneven Age Juvenile and Novice Cross Country Championships took place today (Saturday, 25th Nov) at the Navan Sport Adventure Centre at Navan Racecourse in county Meath. The conditions were horrendous with high winds and rain leaving the course very muddy and tough going.

Well done to all the 26 juveniles and one senior athlete who took to the start line.

The first race up was the U11G over 1.5km. Emily Bolton took to the front and never looked back claiming a brilliant first place and a Gold medal (along with a Silver county medal). Grace O'Grady and Ruby Buckley ran superb races coming over the line in 16th and 22nd places respectively to also claim Silver county medals. Along with their team-mates Caoimhe Delaney, Ella Ryan and Mia Coquart the best part of all was for the girls to claim a team Gold medal for MSB!

The U11B team of Peter Brennan, Zak Murphy, Cillian Flynn, Adam Kelly, David Cassidy and Daniel Magnus Leoca took 13th place in the club event with Peter Brennan first over the line for MSB in 35th place which gained him both a Silver county and a Bronze regional medal for his troubles.

Up next were the U13G over 2.5km. Caoimhe Keegan ran a great race to finish in 13th place, agonisingly close to an individual medal, but has to be happy to get a Silver county medal for her efforts. The team along with Eva Crowe, Aisling O'Grady, Orlaith Lally, Ava Casey and Aoibhinn McGuinness were 14th in the club event.

The U13B race over 2.5km saw Thomas Bolton run a very good race to come over the line in 7th place to claim an individual medal as well as a Gold county medal. Along with team-mates Conor O'Brien, Ben O'Neill, Patrick O'Donnell and Ethan Monahan the team gained a creditable 6th place.

In the U15G race over 3.5km, Viviana McCann was the only MSB entrant, she ran a great race and finished just outside the individual medals in 15th place but managed to gain a Silver county medal for her efforts.

James Bolton was the sole MSB representative in the U15B race and came over the line in a creditable 44th place.

The U19B race saw Salmane Madkour, running up an age, finish in a good 41st place over the tough 6km race.

In the senior novice race Jason Murray, fresh from picking up his Bachelor of Arts degree this week, ran in the National Novice event over 6k which, as a masters' athlete, is a very tough challenge. A creditable 245th placing is a good result.

Massive thanks to all the athletes, parents and coaches for all their efforts looking after the athletes and providing refreshments. Very special thanks to Colm O'Grady, Sean Kildunne and John Flynn who battled the tough conditions to get the MSB tent up to at least give everyone a bit of shelter from the wind and rain.

With one podium, one top 12 finish, one club Gold medal along with numerous county and provincial medals, MSB had yet another fantastic and successful day out, despite the very tough conditions, at the cross country championships.
